欧州と日本の現場から ― サステナブル事業部、発信をはじめます
ジャパングレーラインの社内新規事業として、サステナブル事業部が発足しました。私たちはこれまで、イベント業界およびMICE業界のサステナビリティを高めるために、さまざまな実装をサポートしてきました。多種多様な業界との連携を通じて多くのことを共に学び、新たな領域にも数多く挑戦してきました。これからはその一部を発信していくことにしました。
この記事では、これからどのような発信をしていくのかをご紹介します。
ご一緒するなかで、見えてきたこと
サステナビリティの取り組みは、小さく始めるところからで十分だと私たちは考えています。最初から完成された仕組みを用意しなくても、できる範囲で試してみたことが次の判断材料になっていく。そんな場面を、これまで何度もご一緒してきました。
同時に、「実証実験までは進んだけれど、その先をどう描けばいいか分からない」というご相談も多くいただきます。熱意を持って動かしてきた取り組みが、事業として続く形になりきらないまま一区切りを迎えてしまう。私たちも現場でご一緒しながら、同じ場面に何度も向き合ってきました。
そこで私たちがお手伝いできるのは、始める前に「その先の姿」を一緒に見にいくことだと思っています。欧州には、実証段階を越えて事業や制度として続いている事例があります。それを現地で見ておくと、日本で何をどう始めるかの解像度が変わってきます。そして見て終わりにせず、日本での実装まで一緒に進み、その過程を事例として残していく。次に取り組む方が参照できるものを増やしていきたいと考えています。
これから発信していくこと
私たちの活動は、「欧州で学び、日本で実装する」という一本の流れでつながっています。発信もこの流れに沿って、4つの柱でお届けします。
- 欧州の現場を見る オランダを拠点に、デンマーク・スウェーデン・フィンランド・ノルウェー・ドイツ・フランス・イタリア・スペイン・イギリスなど欧州全域で行ってきた視察から、現地で見た事例と気づきをお届けします。
- 学びの場をつくる 欧州の事例を交えたグローバルな視点のセミナーや、オランダ人講師によるCircular Design School（Bank Park YOKOHAMA開催）など、学びの場での知見を発信します。
- 日本で実装する 欧州で得た知見を日本の現場でどう形にしていったのか。国内のプロジェクトやイベントでの実装事例をご紹介します。
- ツーリズム・MICEへ広げる ツーリズムにおけるサステナビリティの実装や、インバウンドMICEなど、新しく取り組んでいる領域についても発信していきます。
そしてここで紹介する内容は、すべて実際にご相談いただける領域です。

From the Field in Europe and Japan — Introducing Our Sustainable Division Journal
The Sustainable Division has launched as a new internal venture within Japan Gray Line. Until now, our work has been about supporting the practical side of sustainability in the events and MICE industries — helping ideas become things that actually run. Working alongside partners across a wide range of sectors, we have learned a great deal together and taken on plenty of unfamiliar territory. We have decided it is time to start sharing some of it.
This first piece is simply an introduction to what you can expect from us here.
What we have noticed along the way
We believe starting small is more than enough. You do not need a finished system in place on day one — trying something within the scope of what you can manage today usually gives you the information you need for the next decision. We have seen that happen many times, working side by side with the people involved.
At the same time, we often hear a version of the same question: “We made it through the pilot, but we are not sure how to picture what comes after.” An initiative that someone has carried forward with real commitment reaches a natural pause before it takes a form the business can sustain. We have stood in that same spot on site more than once ourselves.
What we think we can help with is going to look at “what comes after” together, before you begin. In Europe there are examples that have moved past the pilot stage and continue today as businesses or as public policy. Seeing those in person tends to sharpen the picture of what to start in Japan, and how. From there we do not stop at observation — we stay involved through implementation in Japan, and we record the process as a case study. Our hope is to keep adding to what the next person can refer to.
What we will be publishing
Our work follows a single thread: learn in Europe, implement in Japan. Our writing will follow that same thread, across four areas.
- Seeing the field in Europe. Working from our base in the Netherlands, we have run study visits across Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Norway, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, the UK and beyond. We will share the examples we saw on the ground and what we took from them.
- Creating places to learn. Seminars that bring a global perspective through European examples, and the Circular Design School led by Dutch instructors at Bank Park YOKOHAMA — we will share what comes out of these sessions.
- Implementing in Japan. How knowledge gathered in Europe took shape on the ground here. We will introduce case studies from projects and events across Japan.
- Extending into tourism and MICE. Sustainability in tourism, inbound MICE, and other areas we have recently begun working in.
Everything we cover here is something you are welcome to talk to us about.
Who we hope will read this
Our main readers are companies looking to bring sustainability into their business. We also write with local governments and ministries in mind, and we will highlight examples that are useful in day-to-day practice. If you have not yet decided where to begin, there is still plenty we can do together.
